Pierre’s Students Collect Items for Needy Children

During February, the students at the Sanford, ME, Pierre’s School of Cosmetology will collect new pajamas and books to help children in need.

The collection will benefit the Pajama Program, a not-for-profit organization providing pajamas and books to needy children in the U.S. and around the world. Many of the children who will receive the items are waiting to be adopted or have been displaced due to domestic abuse or other circumstances. The collected items will be distributed through local agencies such as Caring Unlimited and York County Shelters.

The program was initiated by a local business owner and the Sanford-Springvale Chamber and Commerce. Pierre’s School of Cosmetology also joined the efforts as the students eagerly set up a collection box in their school and have already begun to collect new pajamas and books for the needy children.

“This is an opportunity for all of us to provide the most basic and nurturing item in a child's life, warm and cuddly pajamas,” said Angela Wilcox, Executive Director for the Sanford school.
